This popular park is located 390 feet above sea level at the highest point in Bristol County. The official name of that high point, at 401 Elmwood Street, is "Sunrise Hill" - which will come as news to generations of North Attleborough residents who have always called it "Watery Hill." In the center of the park's main parking area, is a circle containing a "red rock" boulder with a plaque that reads:
"Sunrise Hill Ski Area. In memory of Private Edward P. Nolan whose untiring efforts were instrumental in the establishment of World War 1 Memorial Park. Dedicated November 8, 1970."
Behind the boulder and bronze plaque is a flag pole as well as a panoramic view of parts of North Attleborough and some neighboring towns. The ski slope itself is only stepping away. It features a J-bar and is quite steep, but relatively short.
The zoo features a wide variety of animals including horses, donkeys, llamas, pot-bellied pigs, goats, and deer. Children are encouraged to feed these animals either apples or carrots. Peacocks roam the grounds freely. One of the most memorable areas in the park is "Julia's Garden," installed by the Cekala family in honor of their daughter Julia who died several years ago. It has trails, beautiful landscaping, a unicorn statue, and benches among other amenities.
The World War 1 Memorial Park and Zoo also boast other attractions including multiple playgrounds and picnic areas. The park is free to the public and is open yearly from dawn to dusk. It is maintained by the North Attleborough Park and Recreation Department.
