Building Department

Function

The Building Department's primary purpose is to process permit applications and issue permits for all new commercial and residential construction, reconstruction, alterations, repairs and demolition of buildings and structures, as well as the installation of telecommunications and solar equipment. The Department performs all required inspections for the location, use and occupancy of buildings, structures and land in Town, to ensure that they are constructed safely and used properly. We are also responsible for administering certification inspections for all restaurants, multi-family dwellings, schools, day care centers, nursing homes, public halls, and places of assembly. Zoning Determination requests and Action Needed Reports are also routinely addressed.

Building Inspectors are responsible for enforcing compliance with 780 CMR-Massachusetts State Building Code; 521 CMR-Architectural Access Board; Chapter 40A-Massachusetts Zoning Act; and the North Attleborough Zoning By-Laws. Plumbing/Gas Inspectors are responsibilities for enforcing compliance with CMR 248-The Massachusetts Fuel Gas and Plumbing Code. Electrical Inspectors are responsible for enforcing compliance with 527 CMR-The Massachusetts State Electrical Code, and the National Electrical Code (NEC)
