Fire Escapes

Please be advised that as part of the Periodic Inspection Requirements, you will need to obtain a report from a Licensed Structural Engineer or a Registered Design Professional confirming that your Fire Escape is structurally sound and upload the report into the Attachments of your application. The building inspector can conduct his inspection of your property while awaiting the report, however, your certificate of inspection cannot be issued until we receive a satisfactory fire escape report as required under MGL.

The Building Department is not recommending or attesting to the work of any of the Fire Escape Inspectors listed below.  This list was generated after many residents expressed the inability to locate a person or company willing or eligible to perform this state required inspection for multi-family properties, these were a few that we were able to find in our search to try and assist our Town residents.  

Please be advised that any registered design professional or structural engineer is eligible to perform this inspection and all will be required to submit an affidavit attesting to the adequacy and safety of the fire escape to the Building Department.  If you are qualified to perform these inspections and would like to be added to this list, please contact the Building Department so we can include your name / company information.
