[ARCHIVED] Public Notice: 10- Mile River Flood Mitigation Study

PUBLIC NOTICE

Pursuant to Executive Order 11988 (Floodplain Management) and Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) implementing regulations at Title 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 9, FEMA hereby provides final notice of its decision to Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program funding for an action located in a floodplain. Funding would be provided through Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to the Town of North Attleborough for the 10- Mile River Flood Mitigation Study.

The action is located along the 10-Mile River in North Attleborough. The project is to use borings and test pits to collect data on watershed and drainage characteristics to develop flood mitigation solutions for the area. The project is within a mapped special flood hazard area (100-year floodplain). The project involves temporarily bringing large boring equipment and test pit materials into a mapped floodplain. Staging and work would be limited to paved or previously disturbed areas where opportunities for sediment and runoff is very limited. A map of the area of available upon request.

The project must in be in a floodplain because the intent is to capture information to assist in a flood mitigation study. The No Action alternative would not allow for a complete study and would leave the area vulnerable to potential hazards. Grant conditions will also require compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, including coordination with the local floodplain administrator.

Map requests and comments about this project and potential floodplain impacts should be submitted within 15 days of the date of this publication to:
