Compost Facility

The Town of North Attleborough Composting Facility, located on Plain Street, is for Town of North Attleborough and Plainville residents only.

Non-residents and commercial vehicles are not allowed and shall be considered trespassing and illegally dumping, which carries a $300 fine.

Hours

The Composting Facility shall be open in 2026 from April 10th through December 13th (subject to change due to weather conditions). Hours shall be posted in the newspaper and on the DPW website annually.

Composting Facility Hours are (excluding Holidays):

  • Friday through 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
  • Saturday through 8 am to 3:30 pm.
  • Sunday through 8 am to 3:30 pm.

The Compost Facility is closed to the public Monday through Thursday, with no exceptions. DPW Personnel utilizes the Compost Facility for a number of functions and leave one gate open for this purpose. If the Gate is Open on Monday through Thursday, the public is NOT allowed into the Compost area and will be considered trespassing.

The Composting Facility is for the disposal of leaves, grass and brush only. Residents may take compost and wood chips (in 5 gallon buckets only) and may take any wood that is left by other residents or Town operations. No Machinery or chain saws are allowed in the facility.

No building debris is allowed. Individuals leaving non-approved materials shall be subject to fines of up to $300 and arrest. No prepared (man-made) wood (birdhouses, siding, shingles, etc.) is allowed. Prepared wood may contain nails that can cause damage to our equipment and require the Town to pay for disposal.

Town of North Attleborough and Plainville Residents shall have proof of residency in at least one of the following forms:

  • Driver's License, showing Town residency
  • Vehicle Registration showing Town residency
  • Valid Solid Waste Sticker

The Public Works staff has no methodology for determining the business use of a vehicle, and therefore, does not allow vehicles with commercial plates unless they have a valid North Attleborough Landfill sticker on their vehicle. Commercial Vehicles shall be any vehicle, marked or unmarked, that has commercial license plates issued to the vehicle as a business. Pickup trucks, registered in resident's names are accepted, with proper identification.

Landscaping or tree companies are not allowed to dispose of any debris (including residential debris) at the compost site. All commercial vehicles that enter the site shall be recorded and the company shall be fined, per Town By-Laws.

Bulk Compost for Purchase

The Town sells bulk, screened compost (20 yards or greater) to contractors at a current price of $10 per yard.  Pick up of compost must be scheduled with the Highway Department and Trucks are loaded at the Compost Facility on Plain St.
