Residents can also purchase compost bins. The department has 19 Earth Machine Compost Bins (NPL 300) for $65.00 each. These 80-gallon bins, with a capacity of 300 liters, are designed to compost food and yard waste, effectively diverting it from landfills.
Additionally, approximately 50 kitchen scrap buckets and liners are available for FREE at the Solid Waste Department to assist community members with their composting efforts. Residents can grab their free kitchen scrap buckets and liners, which allow them to temporarily store their food scraps until they’d like to empty them in either their compost bins or at the Recycling Center.
Residents can purchase and pick up the barrels, accessories, and compost bins at the Solid Waste Department Office, 777 Mt. Hope Street, with cash or check during normal business hours. Business hours include Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. If you cannot pick up the barrel at the time of purchase, other arrangements can be made with the department.
