The Solid Waste Department is pleased to announce that it will now offer community members the opportunity to participate in Black Earth Compost’s curbside compost collection program.
Curbside compost collections will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 30, and occur every other week on Wednesdays.
Those interested in enrolling in the program may do so on Black Earth’s website. Once on Black Earth’s website, enter a valid North Attleborough address to see the different program options available to residents.
Residents may choose between a 13-gallon curbside bin or a 4-gallon curbside bin. Each bin comes with a lid and liners. Community members should note that Black Earth requires curbside bins to be lined. Additional liners can be purchased through customers’ accounts and delivered during the next scheduled pickup.
The first 150 residents who enroll in the curbside compost collection program will receive a free starter kit, including a curbside bin and certified compostable bin liners, courtesy of the Solid Waste Department while supplies last.
Once residents receive their bins and line them, they can dispose of all food waste, including meat, bones, dairy, shells, soiled paper towels, napkins and certified compostable utensils. Residents will then place their bins in visible spots on the curb on Tuesday nights or before 6 a.m. on Wednesdays for pickup.
Community members are asked not to put the following items into their compost bins:
- Plastic, including ups, containers, candy wrappers, chip bags and cellophane
- Cardboard cartons, including milk, juice, ice cream and broth cartons, or takeout containers
- Produce stickers, rubber bands or ties
- Bodily fluids or animal waste
- Grass clippings, holiday trees or wreaths
For a complete list of accepted and unaccepted items, visit Black Earth’s Compostable webpage.
Those who utilize Black Earth Compost’s program can reduce their trash by 30% and will assist the Town in diverting compostable material from going into a landfill.
