Dear Residents,
On August 18th, North Attleboro was struck by the impact of an EF-1 Tornado, affecting two distinct areas within our community. The first area affected was Mendon Road, specifically between Huntsbridge Road and Monticello. The second area hit was Lindsay Acres. The prompt response of our fire department and public works teams enabled damage assessment and the swift clearance of the affected roads. The aftermath revealed fallen trees and some property damage, including homes. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
This summer's weather has posed unique challenges, as demonstrated by the sudden and rapid arrival of this storm. The associated Tornado Warning was issued without a preceding watch period. In light of such events, I strongly urge all residents to take advantage of the Code Red Emergency Notifications system. This service is both cost-free and easily accessible on our town website: www.nattleboro.com. To locate the Code Red sign-up, simply navigate to the Emergency Alert Sign Up section. Once registered, Code Red will keep you informed with essential weather alerts and emergency notifications.
As we approach the peak of hurricane season, it is paramount that we remain prepared. Having a solid emergency plan in place and closely monitoring weather forecasts are vital steps to ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones.
Stay vigilant and stay safe,
Chief Coleman
Fire Chief/Emergency Management Director
